Automotive brand shepherds must get bored from time to time. How else to explain out-of-left-field cars such as these? Pumping out car after car all pulled from the same basic mold gets tiresome, so someone decides to move in a different direction with a particular product.
To predict the success (or failure) of six of the latest brand-benders, we looked at them in the context of automotive history's best and worst precedents, weighing our expectations for sales success against an admittedly subjective "good idea" factor. How well we think each car will balance these two goals is reflected in its accompanying graphic.

Scream Teams  Gruesome Grudge Matches
Just in time for Halloween, we pit 20 horror movie icons in 10 movie mash-ups.We pit horror villains against each other to find the best of the worst
Horror and monster-movie crossovers have been popular since the '40s, when Universal mixed it up between its icons Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man. In modern times, violent showdowns like "Freddy vs. Jason" and "Alien vs. Predator" have also proved to be crowd-pleasing movies. But let's be honest: The main reason these monster mash-ups even happen is money, and usually the plots are flimsily constructed for the sole purpose of the team-up. Case in point: "Freddy vs. Jason" was dumb, but its Looney Tunes-like brawls made it a lot of fun to watch. "Alien vs. Predator" fared a bit better thanks to some great action scenes and a dark atmosphere, but it didn't win any Oscars.

Good campaign ads might use sarcastic man-on-the street interviews, like this 2006 attack ad on Tennessee state representative candidate Harold Ford Jr., or go documentary-style, like this attack ad on McCain in 2008.

The Lamborghini Ankonian Looks like One Mean Machine
I never really thought about buying a Batmobile for myself. They just seem like they have so much upkeep, not to mention the cultural baggage that is associated with them. But at least I know the Lamborghini Ankonian exists, and that is as close to a personal Batmobile as I am going to get.
Designed by Macedonian student Slavche Tanevski, this bad boy looks like it was mined from the cave of badassery. With some super angular details and OLED lights built directly into the body, the Lamborghini Ankonian makes me want to start fighting crime—if only for the car.
